I am the founder and former editor-in-chief of The Coop, a newspaper by and for the 1,400 members of the Berkeley Student Cooperative. Our inaugural issue in 2024 covered local housing and transportation issues, student government races at UC Berkeley, and highlighted the subculture of professional handpoke tattooing in the Bay Area.

The Bay Area has long been an expensive place to call home. But in 2021, experts starting raising alarm bells for a dramatic increase in the price for a house. I spoke to some of them, and the residents who these changes impacted, for my first long-form piece at the Daily Cal. This was the first of many stories I wrote to investigate the Bay Area housing crisis and the experience of unhoused residents.

‘Digital immigrants’ interact with technology through instructional program

This was my final project as an intern with the Union-Tribune’s Community Journalism Scholars program. That was 2019, and no one had any idea how much more the world was about to change. This piece sparked my interest in education reporting, and reflecting on it reminds me that education can take many forms and should serve diverse populations.
