a writer telling stories from my hometown, San Diego.

The focus of my recent freelance communications work has been as a contributing storyteller with Uptown 11 Studios, where I have featured local photographers and artists for organizations such as Safelight Labs and the Arts District Liberty Station.

As a journalist, I cover community issues with a focus on housing and public education. My reporting has been published in The San Diego Union-Tribune, San Diego Documenters, and the Daily Californian, and I am the founder and former editor-in-chief of The Coop, a news and culture publication by and for students of the Berkeley Student Cooperative.

I am endlessly inspired by the landscape, people, and culture of Southern California, and deeply connected to my heritage as a Chaldean-American in a family of Iraqi immigrants. Environment, alienation, and human connection feature heavily in my creative work. When I am not writing, I can be found in the ceramic studio, on a long walk in the canyon, or cooking up a storm for my friends.

I graduated from UC Berkeley in 2024 with a Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies and a concentration in Global Cultural Studies. I am an AmeriCorps alumna, having served one year as an elementary student case manager with the Promoting Achievement and Student Success AmeriCorps program. I am also a current fellow of the California Climate Action Corps with San Diego Canyonlands.
